Palestinian film “Omar” receives Oscar nomination for best Foreign Language Film

Nominations have been announced for this year’s Academy Awards’ major categories with Palestinian film “Omar” nominated for an Academy Award in the Foreign Language Film category. Directed by Hany Abu-Assad, “Omar” will be competing against films from Cambodia, Italy, Belgium and Denmark.

In 2005 Abu-Assad’s “Paradise Now” was nominated for the Foreign Language Film Oscar.

The Academy Awards listed “Omar” under Palestine this year and Abu-Assad told AlJazeera “There is no doubt that this is a Palestinian film…And it is right for them to list Omar under Palestine”
